Foot Levelers' Blue Goes Green

New Single Stream Recycling Program, Production Improvements, and More Helping to Transform the Company Into a Greener Manufacturer

ROANOKE, VIRGINIA
—Foot Levelers is excited to announce the results of ongoing environmentally- focused initiatives. Several programs have come to fruition this month, including a brand new Single Stream Recycling Program and new “Project LED.” Plus, the company continues to see dramatic decreases in waste, thanks to production improvements.

  1. New Single Stream Recycling for Our Employees: On March 29th, Foot Levelers kicked off a new, more efficient mixed recycling program through our partner Waste Management. Single stream recycling takes away the time and headache of sorting different materials into different bins, and is proven to increase participation in recycling by up to 50%. Foot Levelers is one of the first companies of its size in the Roanoke Valley to adopt single stream recycling.
  2. New “Project LED”: We’ve embarked on a 36-month plan to replace 1,000+ fluorescent lights throughout our facility with more environmentally-friendly LED tubes. LED tubes are mercury-free; are 30% more energy-efficient than fluorescent; and on average, last 67% longer. LEDs have also been shown to improve a person’s mood, energy, and alertness—great news for Foot Levelers’ hardworking employees. (The 36-month plan was conceived for maximum “green impact” and minimum unnecessary waste: each fluorescent bulb is replaced with an LED as it burns out, so as not throw away a still-functional product).
  3. 31.8% reduction in casting kit-related waste realized; that’s over 18 tons of cardboard saved in 2015 alone: Since 2009, Foot Levelers has decreased the number of foam/cardboard casting kits it provides customers by over 1/3rd, dramatically reducing the company’s carbon footprint in terms of manufacturing, distribution/mailing, and customer use of the kits. Increasingly, Foot Levelers’ customers are using a 3-dimensional imaging system, the Foot Levelers 3D BodyView, to capture and send patient foot images electronically, eliminating the need to “cast.” These images are used to make Foot Levelers’ signature product: custom-made foot orthotics.

“These new programs are helping move Foot Levelers toward its goal of being a more environmentally- friendly manufacturer,” said Steve Stone, Vice President of Operations. “It’s the right thing for the environment, it’s the right thing for business, and it’s something our team can all get behind.”

Introducing Our Two Newest Initiatives to Help Prevent Injury in Youth Sports: New CPOYA™ Custom-Made Orthotic, New CPOYA Providers Network

CPOYA, an Acronym for Concerned Parents of Young Athletes, is a Partnership with Renowned Sports Chiropractor Dr. Tim Maggs

Roanoke, VA—August 23, 2016—Foot Levelers is proud to introduce a brand new specialty custom-made orthotic: CPOYA, designed to help prevent injury and assist biomechanics in middle and high school aged athletes. CPOYA comes in two versions: a full-length custom-made orthotic and a 3/4th length custom-made orthotic with a full-length top cover. CPOYA is slender, lightweight, and ideal for athletic shoes and cleats. It features:

  • Revolutionary MPAX™ in the heel, research-proven to absorb up to 90% of shock, shielding the joints and muscles from undue stress. The full-length CPOYA orthotic also features MPAX Pro™ in the toe area for added propulsion
  • Perforated durable top cover provides breathability, strong odor control
  • StanceGuard™, which provides full weightbearing support for the foot’s three arches throughout the gait cycle
  • 3 Arch Advantage™ to help promote healthy posture, prevent injury and improve biomechanics

The new product coincides with the nationwide launch of the CPOYA Providers Network, an exciting partnership with world-renowned sports Chiropractor Dr. Tim Maggs. “CPOYA” is an acronym for Concerned Parents of Young Athletes. Doctors of Chiropractic and other healthcare professionals can become CPOYA-certified providers through comprehensive and free virtual training at www.CPOYA.com, made possible by Foot Levelers funding. In joining CPOYA, providers are trained in Dr. Maggs’ Structural Fingerprint Exam®, a prevention-oriented biomechanical exam that DCs can provide to young athletes prior to each sports season, in addition to the industry-standard medical exam. Foot Levelers also hosts training on the Structural Fingerprint Exam at the Foot Levelers Training Center in New York (see dates and reserve a space at www.FootLevelers.com/TrainingCenter).

“Too often care for athletes is focused on responding to injuries, rather than preventing them to begin with,” said Kent S. Greenawalt, Foot Levelers’ CEO. “Chiropractic, with its tradition of focusing on whole- body health and biomechanics, can change that. Partnering with Dr. Maggs to launch the CPOYA network, and introducing the CPOYA orthotic, are two exciting initiatives that we hope will help advance the cause of preventative care for our nation’s vulnerable youth athlete population.”

At FCA The National, Foot Levelers Gives Away 3D BodyView® Digital Imaging Device, The Profession’s Most Powerful Digital Scanner

Plus, Foot Levelers Unveils New Custom Orthotics, Shoethotics® and Hosts Dynamic Presentations by Drs. Mitch Mally, Tim Maggs

Roanoke, VA
—September 1, 2016—At the Florida Chiropractic Association’s (FCA) The National last week in Orlando, Foot Levelers gave away a 3D BodyView digital imaging device to one lucky attendee selected at random. The winner was newly minted Doctor of Chiropractic Dr. Bradley Koser of Tampa/St. Petersburg, Florida, a graduate of National University of Health Sciences and the University of South Florida.

The 3D BodyView, an $800 value, will help Dr. Koser get his practice off on the right foot. It’s the fastest, most convenient and accurate way to capture images of patients’ feet and assess their need for custom-made functional orthotics. Plus, the powerful, on-screen imagery and print-ready Report of Findings are compelling patient education tools. The 3D BodyView also helps to improve patient outcomes and increase practice revenue as those who are assessed using the device are more likely to invest in custom-made functional orthotics. In a recent Facebook post, Dr. Koser commented: “I'm so stoked that I won the raffle for a Foot Levelers 3D BodyView orthotics setup at the FCA!!!”

Also at FCA, Foot Levelers sponsored presentations by Dr. Mitch Mally and Dr. Tim Maggs. Dr. Maggs discussed the CPOYATM Providers Network, made possible by Foot Levelers’ funding. Dr. Mally gave several talks on topics spanning Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, foot/ankle biomechanics and shoulder conditions, drawing energetic crowds back to the Foot Levelers booths for demonstrations and “learning beyond the classroom.” At booths #1 and #25, attendees also handled a number of exciting new products fresh from the Foot Levelers’ R&D lab including:

  • New CPOYA custom-made functional orthotic, designed to help prevent injury and assist biomechanics in young athletes.
  • New AM7 custom-made functional orthotic, designed to promote healthy posture and biomechanics in teens ages 13-18.

“100% of My Patients Get Custom Orthotics. What About Yours?” —Dr. Tim Maggs

Dr. Maggs first developed the Structural Fingerprint Exam over 25 years ago while working with the New York Giants. Noting that care for players was focused on reacting to injuries, rather than preventing them, Dr. Maggs developed a system of pinpointing biomechanical and structural weaknesses in the body— weaknesses that could lead to injury. Using this preventative approach, the Structural Fingerprint Exam, all of Dr. Maggs’ patients walk away with a pair of custom-made functional orthotics from Foot Levelers as part of their injury-prevention plan. Foot Levelers’ custom-made orthotics are research- proven to help correct pedal instabilities, absorb shock, and improve biomechanics. They are a critical component of Dr. Maggs’ care, especially for the young athletes who make up the majority of his patients.

Learn How to Reach the Middle and High School Athlete Market

Learning how to perform the exam is also a great way for DCs to break into the underserved middle and high school sports market. Dr. Maggs is a recognized national expert on the subject; he is the Director of Sports Biomechanics at Christian Brothers Academy in Albany, works with more than 25 high schools, and has performed over 1,500 of his Structural Fingerprint Exams on young athletes over the years.

“Foot Levelers is committed to supporting doctors and ensuring their practices are strong and successful, and to helping patients stay safe and injury-free,” said Foot Levelers CEO Kent S. Greenawalt. “Partnering with Dr. Maggs in opening the Training Center and teaching the Structural Fingerprint Exam promotes both of these goals.”
