Kevin Durant Achilles Tendon Rupture Most Likely Caused by Calf Injury

Kevin Durant Achilles Injury

In case you hadn’t heard, the world’s best basketball player, Kevin Durant, recently went down with an Achilles injury. It’s looking like (as we write this) it’s a ruptured Achilles tendon. That’s a devesting injury for anyone, let alone a world-class athlete.

Durant had been dealing with a calf injury, on the same leg, for a few weeks before this Achilles injury. He missed several games because of the calf injury and was in his first game back in action.

In a press conference after the game, the President of the Warriors, Bob Myers commented, “The initial injury was a calf injury. This is not a calf injury,” Myers said. “I’m not a doctor, I don’t know how those are related or not, but it’s a different injury.” read more

Wall Street Journal: Surgery Not Needed for Most Foot Problems

…Course, we already knew that. Foot problems can usually be treated without surgery!

In “No Surgery: Fresh Cures for Common Foot Pain” by WSJ Health Reporter Angela Chen, the writer speaks with experts who say that most foot problems–from bunions to plantar fasciitis to hammertoes to ball of foot pain–can be treated successfully without surgery. “Some treatments, such as insoles that redistribute the pressure on the foot…aim to address the cause of the foot problems, which can help them from recurring,” writes Chen. (Hey! That’s what we’ve been saying all along!)

“‘I think people come in wanting surgery because they want a quick fix and want to be back to normal,’ says Norman Turner, an orthopedic surgeon at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. ‘Unfortunately, in most cases surgery isn’t a quick fix because it can take just as long, or longer, to get back on your feet.'”

“The knife” is not the answer–it’s costly, potentially dangerous, and could have you down for months. Got foot problems? Read the full piece here, then read what a difference custom orthotics make, and find a health professional near you who can help.

Thinking of Alison, Adam, Vickie and a Grieving Community

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends and colleagues of WDBJ7 journalists Adam Ward and Alison Parker, who were stolen from our community yesterday during such a senseless act of violence. Well wishes to the third victim, who is now, thankfully, recovering from her wounds. Our hearts are heavy from the loss.

Congratulations, World Cup Champions!

US women world cup champions

Foot Levelers congratulates all the talented footballers of the U.S. Women’s Team, FIFA World Cup champions!!

The fastest hat trick in any World Cup game, Carli Lloyd’s goal scored from midfield… The U.S. team’s performance smashed records and “reduced polished sportswriters to all-caps expressions of awe — and that was just in the first half,” to quote NPR’s Camila Domonoske.

GO TEAM!
