Category: Health Technology (Page 1 of 2)

Healthcare technology has dramatically advanced and plays a pivotal role in Chiropractic care. Foot Levelers is more than “just” custom orthotics; we’re a technology company, too. Most of the doctors we work with use our proprietary 3D scanning technology to capture images of patients’ feet.

The Foot Levelers Kiosk’s NEW Option

How to Utilize it for Optimal Practice Success

The Foot Levelers Generation 3 Kiosk was released in October 2020. Although there have been various software updates to bring it to its current operational state, the guiding principle has been the same. This three-dimensional, digital, laser scanning device gives the healthcare provider incredibly accurate clinical data about their unique foot function through the Report of Findings (ROF). It’s also an outstanding educational tool for engaging patients and helping them understand the foot-spine connection. read more

Orthotic Insoles Guide

Orthotic insoles offer essential support and pain relief for individuals suffering from foot and ankle conditions. But with so many types of insoles available, choosing the best ones for you can be tricky. Read on to learn more about what the right custom orthotics can do for you.

What Are Orthotic Insoles and What Do They Do?

Foot orthotics are also sometimes called “arch supports” or simply “orthotics.” They can be made of different materials and vary in quality. However, their purpose remains the same: orthotic insoles are designed to support your feet and ankles so that you can stay active without experiencing pain and discomfort. Orthotics guide your foot in maintaining natural and healthy motion and can prevent over-pronation or over-supination. read more

The Foot Levelers Kiosk -Making Practice Easier While Improving the Bottom Line

As chiropractors, many of you have embraced the latest state-of-the-art technologies in your practice that may include EHR software, cold lasers, massage guns, adjusting instruments, etc. There seems to always be some new gadget or gimmick out there that tries to hit us emotionally to make us purchase it. It’s crucial to know if a new piece of technology will be helpful and boost the success of our practice.

When Foot Levelers introduced the world’s first chiropractic foot scanner back in 2001, I was excited to learn about it and adopt it. Personally, I always gravitate towards new technology because it leads us into the future and keeps us on the cutting edge of knowledge. That original FAS SCAN was just the tip of the iceberg in terms of the digital scanning technology that would follow in the years to come. Foot Levelers introduced the 3D Kiosk in 2017 and they have continued to enhance it. read more

Orthotics vs. Inserts: What Is the Difference?

Orthotics for shoes and inserts should not be confused with one another, as there are some crucial differences. Unlike inserts, Foot Levelers orthotics are custom-made for your body and feet, based on scans and doctor exams. Orthotics can manage foot disorders and posture problems, and they generally last much longer-lasting than insoles.

Over-the-counter insoles are available in stores and pharmacies. They are made from gel, foam, and other materials, and these insoles can provide good shock absorption and cushion. However, inserts cannot treat or prevent foot disorders, such as over-pronation or alignment issues. Moreover, since inserts are not custom-made for your specific feet, wearing them could cause pain and discomfort over time. read more

Four Steps to Success in Teaching Patients the Foot-Spine Connection

Crooked Man body stresses

It’s a marvel how little patients understand about the bodies they inhabit. In the healthcare arena, pain and discomfort are big factors for going to the typical medical doctor. Most patients have been trained to seek this type of healthcare practitioner from their early days of going to the pediatrician and then to their adult GP. It comes as no surprise to us that patients become frustrated when they are told to take medication, give it 4-6 weeks of rest, or get referred for therapy and exercises that don’t work as well as the patient hopes. They feel like they are spinning their wheels. read more

New Athletic TIPS: Treating Over-Pronation in Football Players

    Dr kennedy adjusting

Check out this new Athletic TIPS from Dr. Pat Kennedy: “Treating Excessive Pronation in Football Players.” By some estimates, 77% of the population over-pronates–that’s 3 out of 4 adults! –making the entire body more susceptible to injury and disease (not just the feet). In a game as rough as football, it’s essential that athletes who over-pronate get treatment, and Chiropractic care + custom-made orthotics offer research-proven results.

(…But you don’t have to take our word for it. Just ask the NFL!)

    Why ‘Custom Orthotics’ Matters

    importance-of-custom-orthotics

Considering custom orthotics? Maybe your Chiropractor recommended custom orthotics to help treat a painful condition, like low back pain, knee pain or plantar fasciitis.  Or perhaps you’re an athlete who wants to improve your performance on the field while protecting yourself from injury. Head to toe (and everywhere in between), research shows that the feet play a critical role in whole-body wellness. Custom orthotics can help keep them balanced and healthy.

But you may be wondering to yourself: why is custom such a big deal when it comes to orthotics?  After all, generic, off-the-shelf inserts are cheaper, and they’re everywhere, lining the shelves of a number of pharmacies, super stores, even some grocery stores. Their bright and flashy packaging promises the world: “Get relief from runner’s knee!” “Soothe arthritis pain!”  “Helps with low back pain!”

    poor quality orthotics

If all that’s true… Why not go for the cheap and easy fix?

What is the big deal about custom anyway?

    We’re so glad you asked!

Let’s start with the basics: Your feet are just as unique as your fingerprints. That means your size 9 feet are not the same as your neighbor’s size 9 feet (in fact, if you’re like most people, there are even significant differences between your right foot and left!).

Generic, over-the-counter “orthotics” ignore this crucial fact.

Because they’re mass-produced, they can only address only general conditions, for “general feet,” as if such a thing exists. They can’t account for differences between your right and left foot, and they certainly can’t include read more

Chiro is Growing! Have YOU Visited a DC Lately?

    Chiropractor

Check out this news from the Foundation for Chiropractic Progress (F4CP): a recent Gallup Poll states an estimated 33.6 million U.S. adults (14 percent) saw a Chiropractor within the last 12 months – that’s big jump from the roughly 20.6 million reported in a previous study.

Why the growth? Experts at the F4CP say the Americans are becoming more confident in the profession. (Hat tip to the foundation folks–they work tirelessly to get the word out about the benefits of Chiropractic. We’re proud that it was founded by our CEO and Chairman, and includes Chiropractic leaders from all over the country.  You can learn more about the foundation here).

chiropractic symbolThe research also showed that 51 percent of U.S. adults had seen a Chiropractor during their lifetime–but that unfortunately, misconceptions remain.  The majority of people don’t know that Doctors of Chiropractic must complete a minimum of seven years of college education, for example, which includes clinical patient management. Or that aspiring DCs must also pass rigorous national and state boards.

In reflecting on the study, executive VP for F4CP Dr. Sherry McAllister said: “We are addressing the information gap that may be preventing individuals from seeking Chiropractic care, and reaffirming the message that care provided by a DC is not only safe and affordable, but also covered by most insurance plans. Americans can trust their Chiropractors to successfully address their health concerns without the use of drugs.”

Have you visited your DC lately? From high blood pressure to sports performance to headaches and back pain, Chiropractic can help. Don’t have a Chiropractor yet? Find one near you here.

Avoid Dangerous, Costly Surgery for Knee Pain–Go for Conservative Care First

    Got knee pain?

Some people suffer knee pain so acutely, they’re ready to jump on the surgical table for a total knee replacement.  While this option can work, conservative care may be just as effective at relief–plus less costly, less dangerous, and requiring little to no “down time.”

    knee injury

That’s what a recent study covered in Reuters Health

found: that “while 85 percent of patients who underwent surgery showed clinically-significant improvement after one year, so did 67 percent assigned to a combination of supervised exercise, use of insoles, pain medication, education and dietary advice. read more
