We packed a bag and headed to the coast in our Fiji custom orthotic waterproof flip-flops recently (not only do they “defy the sea”; we’re pleased to report they’re great for breezing through airport security, too). Click here to watch us test drive a pair in the water!

The Why: Foot problems that develop in childhood can seriously affect your child’s health now and in the future. Picture the body as a building: if the foundation is unbalanced or “off,” everything built on top of it may suffer–in your child’s body, this includes the pelvis and spine, leading to biomechanical dysfunction. Later in life, foot problems from childhood can can accelerate degenerative changes in the knees, hips, and spine. They may also put your child at greater risk for injury during sports or play. read more

How Many Pairs of Shoes Do You Own? (And Are You Sure?)

Let’s face it. No one wears the same shoes all the time, because there’s more to life than just the office or gym. In fact, the average American owns an average of 19 pairs of shoes at any given time!

We challenged our employees to get out their shoes, count ’em, and take a picture. (Our “winner” so far on number of pairs owned is Corrie, 125 pairs of shoes!)

What’s in a shoe?

Consider this: the average American takes 5,900 steps a day.¹ Most people will walk thousands of miles over a lifetime.

With each step, improper footwear can cause degenerative changes in the muscles, joints and connective tissues of the feet. Feet are the body’s foundation—when that’s compromised, everything above may shift. A body out of alignment is a body in pain, one that’s more prone to injury and disease.

Ladies—we hope you’re listening (!), because you, especially, are at risk. A survey on women’s shoes found that 88% of women were wearing shoes that were smaller than their feet (by an avg. of 12 cm!). Is it any wonder that 80% reported “some foot pain” and that 76% of the women surveyed were found to have one or more foot deformity? read more
