New Athletic TIPS: Treating Over-Pronation in Football Players

dr kennedy adjusting

Check out this new Athletic TIPS from Dr. Pat Kennedy: “Treating Excessive Pronation in Football Players.” By some estimates, 77% of the population over-pronates–that’s 3 out of 4 adults! –making the entire body more susceptible to injury and disease (not just the feet). In a game as rough as football, it’s essential that athletes who over-pronate get treatment, and Chiropractic care + custom-made orthotics offer research-proven results.

(…But you don’t have to take our word for it. Just ask the NFL!)

Want to learn more about pronation? You can dig a little deeper into the topic here.

We don’t mean to brag (well, maybe just a little) but here’s our own Brandon Matheny (center) hanging out with the fine folks of the Professional Football Chiropractic Society, also known as the 32 Chiropractors who serve the 32 teams of the NFL. Brandon met up with them at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis last month to talk about the role of Foot Levelers custom orthotics in both preventing injury and helping athletes achieve peak performance. He’s holding our two newest orthotics, designed specifically for elite athletes: the XP3 and XP3+.

If the pros trust Foot Levelers custom orthotics to keep them at the top of their game… Shouldn’t you?

Hip Injuries in Sports: How Orthotics Can Help

soccer shot

Great piece in Circle of Docs from Dr. Mark Charrette on hip injuries in sports–how to prevent and treat them with custom orthotics.  Check it out here!

From the article: “One study looked at the foot biomechanics of athletes who reported a recent foot or leg injury and compared them to an uninjured control group.2 The researchers determined that those athletes with more foot pronation had a much greater statistical probability of sustaining one of five leg injuries, including iliotibial band syndrome (which is due to excessive tightness of the hip abductor muscles).

This study helps us understand how providing appropriate functional foot orthotic support to patients who are involved in sports or recreational activities lowers their likelihood of developing both traumatic and overuse hip injuries.”

We love hearing from our Doctors! Thanks, Dr. Barnett!

“I put my new Foot Levelers functional orthotics into my baseball cleats last Sunday for the first game of the season. I stole 2 bases and had 2 runs—‘must be the shoes?’ No way! It’s my Foot Levelers’ functional orthotics. They help stabilize my body and keep it working at its best! My orthotics go everywhere I do, in my bowling shoes, tennis shoes, work shoes, baseball shoes. I can’t wait to get them into my golf cleats!”

Keep Sprains Out of the Game: Protect Your Foundation with Custom Orthotics

shutterstock_290361476

Let’s get real about ankle sprains. They’re no joke.

Today, just like every day, approximately 25,000 people in the U.S. will sprain their ankles.

More than 1 million people visit emergency rooms each year because of ankle injuries.

A sprained ankle on the mend.

Ankle sprains are the #1 injury in sports.

If you’ve ever experienced an ankle sprain—and chances are you have—you know how incredibly painful and debilitating they can be.  The worst ones may have you down for the count for weeks, if not months.

What’s more, up to 50% of ankle sprain patients will suffer from pain and reduced ankle function over the long-term. About 30% of those who sustain their first initial lateral ankle sprain will develop Chronic Ankle Instability—a painful and potentially debilitating condition.

orthoticfanThere’s good news, though: your health professional can help, with effective preventative care plus powerful, lasting treatments should a sprain occur.  The key, according to study after study: custom orthotics. They not only help stabilize the foot and ankle, they help to “retrain” your muscles, joints and ligaments for better functioning—the perfect compliment to your doctor‘s care.

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: to stay healthy and “in the game” for as long as possible—protect your foundation.
